Eden Farms History

Eden Farms was established in 1983 at Highfields, Queensland. Initially a cut flower operation using the emerging technology we now know as ‘hydroponics’.

This exciting new technology offered benefits in vegetable production. Eden Farms imported the first Continental Cucumber seeds from Holland in 1984. After Greenhouse trials the produce was marketed in Queensland through the Brisbane Rocklea Markets.

Eden Farms were the first suppliers of Continental Cucumber on the Eastern coast of Australia.

The Continental Cucumber was an enormous success with Queensland house holds so we continued to introduce more plants to our operation until we outgrew the Highfields location and moved to our Hampton location.

Wanting to further expand our growing area to supply good quality Continental Cucumbers year round Eden Farms established an additional horticulture operation at Moore Park Bundaberg in 1990.

To meet the steady demand for our Continental Cucumbers, we further expanded our operation to two more locations in Bundaberg. In 2007 we launched our Dahls Road operations and again in 2009 our Fallons Rocks Road operation.

Our producing farm area spans approximately 12 hectare of greenhouses at the three locations in Bundaberg.

Eden Farms have been market leaders in excess of two decades and dominates the market place in the supply of Continental Cucumbers through production innovation and efficiency.

Eden Farms were pioneers in:

  • Individual fruit labeling
  • Individual piece shrink wrapping of fruit
  • Benchmarking floor area production
  • Importing consultant advice and technologies to increase production per m2 floor area.

Currently the business is focused on growing and marketing of hydroponic fruit and vegetable crops in particularly continental cucumbers. Eden Farms is not a monoculture facility limited to one crop and has had successful experience in efficiently producing cut flowers, hydroponic tomatoes, hydroponic capsicums, cukes and Lebanese cucumbers.

Eden Farms is sensitive to the needs of the market and the crop grown is market driven hence the specialization of the production of continental cucumbers for an extended period of time. The Eden Farms production model is designed to provide consistent supply of high quality product all year round into the market place.
